How to train new life insurance telesales agents: a 30-day plan

How do you train new life insurance telesales agents to close more?
Teach one call flow, not five. In week one new agents learn the flow and the compliance lines; in week two they practice the ten most common objections out loud until they pass a simple scorecard; in weeks three and four they take live calls with the approved line on screen and review two scored calls a day with a manager. Measure behaviors first, sales second.
What is Amotions AI?
Amotions AI is a real-time private AI sales coach that delivers in-call guidance, AI roleplay, and post-call scorecards—trained on the customer’s playbook. It does not join meetings as a bot.
Why do new life insurance phone agents struggle to close?
Most newly licensed agents know the products well enough to pass an exam. What they have not done is hear “I need to think about it” forty times in a day. The first real objections arrive live, on a dialer, with no time to think, and the natural reaction is to talk faster or give up.
Shadowing a top agent helps, but it does not build the reflex. Neither does a binder of rebuttals. Agents improve when they say the approved line out loud, get feedback, and repeat it, and when they have help in the moment the objection comes.
This plan assumes agents are licensed and appointed. Licensing, carrier appointments, disclosures, and recording consent follow your agency’s and carriers’ processes.
Week 1: what should new agents learn first?
One call flow, end to end. If your floor sells final expense, term, and mortgage protection, start with the product most of the leads are for and add the others later.
•
The opening and the required disclosures, word for word.
•
Five discovery questions: who the coverage protects, what it should pay for, existing coverage, budget, and health questions in the carrier’s order.
•
How to present one recommendation in plain language.
•
How to ask for the application and set a next step.
By Friday each agent runs the full call in roleplay without notes. Do not move on until they can.
Week 2: how should new agents learn objections?
Pick the ten objections your floor hears most. For most life insurance phone floors that list is: think about it, too expensive, send it in the mail, already covered through work, how did you get my number, talk to my spouse, no bank details over the phone, I’m healthy, shopping around, and an early “not interested.” A ready-made version with illustrative scripts is here: https://amotionsinc.com/blogs/life-insurance-telesales-objections-what-new-agents-should-say
Teach one structure for all of them: acknowledge, ask one question, answer with approved wording, agree a next step.
Then practice two objections a day out loud. Use a manager, a teammate playing a difficult prospect, or AI roleplay. Score every practice call yes or no:
•
Acknowledged the concern before answering?
•
Asked one question to find the real reason?
•
Used approved wording, with no numbers from memory?
•
Ended with a next step the prospect chose?
An agent is ready for live calls when they pass all four on every objection.
Weeks 3 and 4: how should new agents handle live calls?
Put agents on live calls with help visible. That can be a printed card next to the screen, a manager listening on a whisper line, or a private AI overlay that shows the approved rebuttal when the prospect objects.
Every day, each new agent reviews two scored calls with a manager: one that went well and one that did not. Keep the review to fifteen minutes and one change for tomorrow.
Every objection they missed goes back into roleplay that afternoon. The loop is practice, live call, review, practice.
What should managers measure in the first 30 days?
Close rate on a new agent’s first fifty calls is noisy. Lead quality, time of day, and luck swamp skill. Track behaviors instead, because they move first:
•
Share of calls where all five discovery questions were asked.
•
Share of objections answered with the four-step structure.
•
Share of calls ending with a clear next step.
•
Required disclosures delivered on every call.
When these are consistently high, close rate usually follows. When they are not, more leads will not fix it.
What should owners give new agents on day one?
•
The written call flow for one product.
•
The ten objections with approved wording, on one page.
•
The list of things never to say: no premiums or payouts from memory, no invented deadlines, no advice to cancel existing coverage, no pushing after a clear no.
•
A daily schedule: roleplay first thing, live calls, two scored calls reviewed before the end of the shift.
How does Amotions AI help train new telesales agents?
Amotions AI is a real-time AI sales coach trained on your agency’s scripts. Product capabilities that map to this plan:
•
AI roleplay: agents practice the call flow and objections against prospect personas built from your materials, and each practice call is scored on your rubric.
•
Live coaching: a private overlay beside ViciDial, GoHighLevel, CallTools, or a browser dialer suggests the next line from your approved rebuttals during the call. It does not join the call, and the prospect never sees it.
•
Scorecards: every call is scored on your call flow afterwards, so managers can pick the two calls to review without listening to all of them.
Amotions calibrates to your scripts in about a week. It coaches the conversation, not the product recommendation, and it does not promise ramp-time or close-rate results. More: https://amotionsinc.com/solutions/insurance-telesales-ai-coach
Frequently asked questions
Q1.
How long does it take to train a new life insurance telesales agent?
A.
It varies by agent, product, and lead source. A practical plan is one week on the call flow, one week on objections, and two weeks of live calls with daily scored reviews.
Q2.
What should new life insurance agents practice first?
A.
One full call flow, including the required disclosures, then the ten most common objections with one structure: acknowledge, ask, answer with approved wording, agree a next step.
Q3.
Is shadowing a top agent enough training?
A.
Shadowing shows what good sounds like, but agents build the reflex by saying the lines out loud themselves and getting feedback on each attempt.
Q4.
Can AI help new insurance agents during live calls?
A.
Yes. Amotions AI shows private suggestions from the agency’s approved scripts during the call, beside the dialer. The prospect does not see or hear it.
Q5.
Can new agents try Amotions for free?
A.
Yes. The free plan lets an agent try live coaching, roleplay, and call scoring on real calls. Every plan is listed at https://amotionsinc.com/pricing
