What do you say when you call back a financial-services web lead?
Name what they asked for, ask permission for a few questions, and keep the call about them: what prompted the enquiry, what they want their money to do and by when, and who else decides. Then explain why a consultation with the senior advisor is the next step and offer two specific times.
What is Amotions AI?
Amotions AI is a real-time private AI sales coach that delivers in-call guidance, AI roleplay, and post-call scorecards—trained on the customer’s playbook. It does not join meetings as a bot.
Before you dial
Open the lead record and note three things: what they asked about (retirement, a pension transfer, insurance, a second opinion), when they asked, and which page or ad they came from. Leads remember the question they typed, not your firm’s name.
Call as soon as you can. The longer the gap, the more the first minute becomes “who is this?” instead of “thanks for calling me back”.
Have the senior advisor’s next open consultation times in front of you, so you can offer two real options.
Step 1: The opener (first 20 seconds)
“Hi [first name], it’s [your name] from [firm]. You asked about [topic] on our website [yesterday]. Did I catch you at an okay time for a few minutes?”
If it is a bad time: “No problem. When is better, later today or tomorrow morning?” Book the callback before you hang up.
Why it works: naming their own question tells them why you are calling before they decide to get off the phone.
Step 2: Set the agenda and ask permission
“Here’s what I’d suggest. I’ll ask a few quick questions to understand where you are, and if it makes sense, we’ll set up a conversation with [senior advisor], who works with people in your situation. If it doesn’t make sense, I’ll tell you. Fair?”
This line matters most. It tells the lead the call is short, that a meeting is the possible outcome, and that they are allowed to say no.
Step 3: Discovery questions
Ask, listen, and write down their words. You will reuse them in step 4.
1.
What prompted you to reach out now? (“What made this the week you looked into it?”)
2.
What do you want your money to do for you, and by when? (Retire at a certain age, help a child, stop worrying about a pension.)
3.
What have you already done or looked at? (Another advisor, a workplace plan, their own research.)
4.
Who else is involved in this decision? (Spouse, partner, a parent.)
5.
If we could help with one thing first, what would it be?
Do not answer investment questions on this call. “That’s exactly the kind of question [senior advisor] will go through with you” is a full answer.
Step 4: Bridge to the consultation
Play back what you heard, in their words, then connect it to the meeting.
“So you’d like to retire at 62, you’re not sure your current plan gets you there, and you’d like [spouse] involved. That’s exactly what a first conversation with [senior advisor] is for: you’ll see where you stand today and what your options are. There’s no cost for that first meeting and no commitment to move anything.”
Only say “no cost” and “no commitment” if both are true for your firm.
Step 5: Book a specific time
“[Senior advisor] has Thursday at 10 or Friday at 2. Which is easier?” Two options beat “when are you free?”.
If a spouse or partner is involved: “Would [spouse] be able to join? It usually helps to hear it together.” Pick a time that works for both.
Confirm how the meeting happens (phone, video or in person) and the address or link.
Step 6: Confirm and set up the show
“You’ll get a confirmation by email in the next few minutes. Is [email] still best? Before the meeting, if you can have a rough idea of your current accounts, that helps [senior advisor] make the most of the time.”
“Is there anything that might stop you making Thursday?” A clear answer now saves a no-show later.
Send the confirmation while you are still on the phone if you can.
What to say when the lead hesitates
“I was just looking.” → “That’s exactly what this call is for. Can I ask two quick questions to see if a conversation would even be useful?”
“Can you just email me something?” → “Happy to. So I send the right thing, what would you want it to answer?” Then go back to step 3.
“I already have an advisor.” → “That’s good to hear. A lot of people we talk to want a second opinion. Is there anything you’d want a fresh look at?”
“I’m not ready to move anything.” → “Nobody moves anything on the first meeting. It’s a conversation to see where you stand. Would morning or afternoon be easier?”

How Amotions AI approaches this
Amotions AI lets you add the six steps as a playbook. During the phone call, a private panel marks each discovery question as covered when it clearly comes up, and a reminder appears after a delay you set if one has not been asked. The lead does not see it, and it never joins the call.
Upload your own wording for the opener, the bridge and each hesitation, and live prompts can show that exact text. Your firm writes the wording; the AI follows your script. After the call it is scored against the same steps. See AI for financial advisor lead follow-up calls.

Frequently asked questions
Q1.
How long should a lead follow-up call be?
A.
Most first calls take five to fifteen minutes. If it runs much longer, you are probably doing the senior advisor’s job on the phone.
Q2.
Should the caller answer questions about specific investments?
A.
No. The caller’s job is to understand the person and book the right meeting. Specific questions go to the senior advisor in the consultation.
Q3.
What if they will not book on the first call?
A.
Agree a specific callback time and what you will both do before it, for example talking to a spouse. An open “I’ll think about it” rarely comes back.
Q4.
Can I see this script on screen during the call?
A.
Yes. In Amotions AI, add the steps as a playbook and upload your exact lines. The overlay shows which steps are open and suggests your wording as the call goes.
