Founding Story
Reflecting on my own journey, the internet and technology were powerful in transforming my life, as was human kindness. I remember being an elementary school student in my rural village house in Taishan, China, observing my parents. One worked in a factory, the other one at a store, both working 7-days a week to provide the resources for my education and well-being. My dad only attended elementary school, and my mom only attended middle school, but they understand the importance of learning and education, and they worked hard to provide the best condition for me to learn early on and support my education all the way through college. I thought I would study as hard as I could to have better lives for myself and my family. When I was in high school, we got the internet. The internet let me get information about the opportunities to study at universities around the world and get in touch with professors at top universities. Besides my family, there are a lot of mentors, extended family members, teachers, friends, colleagues, alumni, neighbors, and kind people who helped along the way throughout my school years and career.
Amotions uses the internet and technology as tools to connect users with knowledge, insights, peers, coaches, advisors, and mentors with industry experience and expertise. I struggled with leading teams and managing relationships early on in my career in product management in tech, after graduating from Yale with my master's degrees in sociology and a master’s thesis on social mobility and psychological well-being. I had the idea of building an AI virtual coach which can listen to me and give me tips when I am raising my voice and say “Seems like you are getting upset, take a deep breath, calm down first, so you are not getting into an argument with your coworkers and destroy your relationships.” Then as I discussed the idea with the team members and potential users and customers, I realized that we can also utilize the power of a human support system.
Journey to Success
There are millions of people who struggle with emotion management and relationship issues in professional and personal lives, and there are no accessible and affordable solutions - not everyone can afford an executive coach, and passively consuming content like books and videos are not effective in learning skills such as emotional intelligence, interpersonal skills, and leadership skills.
As we progress to do more teamwork and collaboration, there’s an increasing need for us to work better with others. Helping people develop self-awareness, emotional intelligence, interpersonal skills, and leadership skills is a starting point for Amotions.
However, we aim for more. We want to provide the platform and support network for everyone to continue to grow themselves and extend their potential, both professionally and personally, and learn various skills. We mean everyone - our solutions should be available and affordable for people across various social-economic circumstances and around the world.
As a mother, I want my children to have the self-motivation and support network to grow themselves, and have great relationships in their professional and personal lives. I hope to create the kind of environment needed for them and many others. The world will be a better place when a lot of people are happy with their lives and care about each other.
Mission Statement
We created Amotions to help as many people as we can to be happy and successful in their lives, feel loved, and love themselves and others, to improve millions of people’s lives. We believe that each person can grow, and has unlimited potential. We are also certain about the powerful positive impact of the internet and technology, education, human kindness, and love. We are hoping to leverage technology and kind human communities to provide support, love, empathy, nourishment, and encouragement for each person to flourish.
Sometimes when we are discouraged, all we need is a little understanding, encouragement, support, and self-reflection. Self-motivation is important, and getting help and helping others is important too. There are a lot of obstacles and challenges in life, and we want to be able to help ourselves and millions of people develop the skills needed to face them, and the community and support network to overcome them.
Amotions AI is a Silicon Valley based startup building an emotionally intelligent teammate embedded in sales calls.
